Taco Seasoning

Many of the blogs that I read use homemade taco seasoning, and I never understood the hype behind it all. Well one day I wanted to make tacos and didn't have any packages of taco seasoning so I decided to try it out. I happened to have all the spices in our cabinet, and I have to say it was a hit. I was able to spice it up since we like our tacos to have a kick to them. Now whenever I make up a batch I double it and put half into a bowel to use that night and then put the rest into an empty spice container so it is ready for another night. I combined a few different "recipes" and it always tastes great. Feel free to adjust the seasonings to your personal tastes.

Taco Seasoning
1 tbsp chili powder
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp red pepper ( I add an extra sprinkle little extra)
1/4 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp paprika
1 1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (can omit or lessen)

This makes the perfect amount for about 1lb-1.5lbs of meat. Just add the seasoning and 2/3 cup of water to the cooked meat. Let simmer for 5 minutes, just like you do with the packaged stuff.
